En este trabajo se examinan algunos fundamentos interpretativos para evaluar la historicidad de la primera novela de Eduardo Mendoza, La verdad sobre el caso Savolta (1975). En opinión del autor, la fecha de publicación y el contexto han supuesto una búsqueda de la referencia histórica que en varios sentidos el texto bloquea y desvirtúa. En una clara tradición cervantina, la ficción no aspira a producir una verdad histórica y muy difícilmente la lección de la historia resulta aplicable al presente de la enunciación narrativa.

ABSTRACT
In this article I review some basics elements in the historical interpretation of the first novel by Eduardo Mendoza, La verdad sobre el caso Savolta (1975). It is affirmed that the date and the context of the publication have stimulated the search of a historical dimension in the novel. However, in the Cervantes tradition the fiction does not try to focus in historical truth and the learning that can be obtained from History cannot be easily related with the text or the time when it was published.
